Orthodontics for children at Medicodent Dental Clinic in Sződliget, with Dr. Szilvia Péter

Orthodontics for children

In childhood the growth of the jawbones can still be guided, so early screening and treatment can prevent more serious problems. The first screening is recommended around the age of 6–7.

Dr. Szilvia Péter pays particular attention to creating a calm, trust-based atmosphere with children, as well as to the role of correct breathing, swallowing and tongue function in achieving lasting treatment results.

Which appliance can you choose from?

  • Removable braces – mainly for children, to guide the growth of the jawbone. The patient can take them out for eating and brushing.
  • Fixed braces – with brackets bonded to the teeth, the teeth can be moved precisely and effectively; ideal even for more complex problems.
  • Aesthetic / invisible solutions – discreet, clear aligners and less noticeable appliances, especially popular among our adult patients.

How the treatment works

  1. Consultation and assessment: examination of the teeth, bite and jawbones, with an X-ray if needed.
  2. Individual treatment plan: selecting the appliance and schedule tailored to your goals, with information about the expected duration and costs.
  3. Fitting the appliance: setting up the chosen fixed or removable appliance.
  4. Regular check-ups: periodic monitoring and adjustments during the treatment for the planned result.
  5. Retention phase: at the end of the treatment a retainer secures the result achieved.

How much does orthodontics cost?

The exact price depends on the chosen appliance and the complexity of the treatment, so we always prepare an individual treatment plan and quote at the consultation. You can find current fees on our price list page.

Frequently asked questions about orthodontics

From what age is orthodontics recommended?

The first screening is recommended around the age of 6–7, because the growth of the jawbone can still be well guided at that time. The timing of the actual treatment depends on the pace of the tooth change.

Can adults have orthodontic treatment too?

Yes. With healthy teeth and gums, teeth can be aligned in adulthood as well, using aesthetic, discreet appliances.

Does wearing braces hurt?

After fitting the appliance and after adjustments, a mild feeling of pressure may occur for a few days, but this usually passes quickly.

How long does the treatment take?

The length of treatment depends on the degree of the problem, typically ranging from several months to a few years. We give you precise information about the expected duration at the consultation.
